Combining her experience as an outdoor guide with a Bachelor’s in Psychology and a Master’s in Public Relations, Katie Smith started the Marketing Hat a year ago to “guide business owners and teams through the wilderness of marketing.” “I take a guide’s approach. ... I want to give them the tools they need and help them learn to understand and enjoy marketing,” said Smith. Leading with a model of compassion, Smith provides marketing consulting in the forms of one-on-one coaching, team strategy development, and workshops for businesses of all sizes.
Smith frequently participates in many Prospera events, including the Monthly Member Meetups, women-owned business tours, and trainings, including recently completing the Link Up class. “Prospera is so great because not only does it help bring people together, but it really pulls out some of these incredible thought leaders in our community, allows them to teach and to talk and allows the rest of us to really learn from all these incredible minds,” explained Smith.
Identifying with the ups and downs of being a solo-entrepreneur, Smith’s recommendation to anyone who is thinking about starting a business is to join Prospera and take advantage of the resources. Said Smith, “You never know who you are going to meet. It could be your next client; it could be your best friend and somebody who can commiserate with you or somebody who has already been through what you’re going through and who can show you tools and ideas for growth.”
